Judge Aaron R. Petty is an Appellate Immigration Judge at the Board of Immigration Appeals, the highest administrative tribunal for interpreting and applying immigration law in the United States. Previously, he served consecutively as trial attorney, counsel for national security, and senior counsel for national security at the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Immigration Litigation. He has handled both trial and appellate matters in federal courts nationwide, with a particular focus on cases raising counter-terrorism, counter-espionage, and human rights issues.  Judge Petty began his career as a staff law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He also serves as a judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, and is a Senior Research Associate in refugee law at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.
