Faculty & Research

The faculty at Illinois Law are some of the most innovative, esteemed, and influential legal thinkers in the country. They have poured their talents into training students and shaping the law through research and public engagement.

Research Highlights

Illinois faculty provide thought leadership in many areas of law – bankruptcy, corporate, criminal, elder, health, intellectual property, and more. Their legal scholarship is well-respected and often cited; 11 have been elected to the prestigious American Law Institute. The Legal Research Paper Series on SSRN distributes working papers and published research by members of the Illinois faculty.

Interdisciplinary Culture

About 39% of faculty hold advanced degrees beyond their JDs in fields such as medicine, economics, engineering, business, and psychology. This range of perspectives brings depth to the classroom and fosters rich research partnerships and faculty-led specialty programs.

I love how curious, warm, and gracious Illinois law students are.

At Illinois, our faculty and students really know each other – inside and outside the classroom. The faculty are warm, approachable, and eager to collaborate with their students, whether that means volunteering together at a local food pantry, hiring them as research assistants, or simply hanging back after class to make sure all of their questions are answered.
