About

Steve Benathen is a career law clerk to the Hon. Audrey E. Stone in the Criminal Term of Bronx County Supreme Court in New York City.  He assists Justice Stone in her work presiding over Bronx County’s dedicated felony domestic violence court as well as a varied docket of felony jury trials.  He previously clerked for the Hon. Ellen Gesmer and the Hon. Lizbeth González of the New York State Appellate Division, First Department.  Steve began his career as a public defender with The Bronx Defenders and has also worked as an appellate public defender with The Center for Appellate Litigation.

He received his JD magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law and his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from New York University.  He is active in several bar associations in New York City, including the New York City Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, and the LGBT Bar Association of New York.
