About

A graduate of Duke University, and proud University of Illinois College of Law alum, Jason St. Aubin began his legal practice as an Assistant Public Defender in Charlotte, NC. Shortly after, he began teaching evening classes at the Charlotte School of Law including Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Plea Bargaining, and Interviewing Counseling and Negotiations to hundreds of law students over the course of 9 years.

Jason has participated as faculty member and presenter at numerous training programs for attorneys at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Government, from Misdemeanor Defender Training to Higher Level Felony Defender Training and the comprehensive Defender Trial School. Jason’s research has been featured in the North Carolina Superior Court Judge’s Benchbook.

Jason has never stopped working as a trial attorney for his twenty-year career. He has practiced in over 30 counties in North Carolina and two federal districts. He has tried nearly 100 bench and jury trials, including successfully obtaining the first jury verdict reached in Charlotte in over a year during the Covid pandemic. He has been named as North Carolina Legal Elite in the field of Criminal Law.

Jason and his clients have been featured in an award-winning radio miniseries on NPR, focusing on the struggles with the capacity process in the court system. Jason has also been a legal commentator on the Law & Crime Podcast and various media outlets.

Jason currently manages St Aubin Law, a criminal defense firm, and acts as a legal consultant for the North Carolina Indigent Defense Service in addition to coaching competitive trial teams for the College of Law.
