About

Sam Jahangir is the Visiting Associate Director of Trial Advocacy. Prior to joining the College of Law, Sam worked over seven years as an associate at the Chicago office of Jenner & Block LLP. While at Jenner, his practice focused on the intersectionality of internal investigations and commercial litigation, which included both conducting investigations on behalf of clients as well as representing clients before governmental agencies or in subsequent litigation. He maintained a robust pro bono practice, representing clients in a wide range of issues, including but not limited to criminal defense, immigration, education, wrongful conviction, animal rights, and civil rights. He was also a contributing author to Jenner & Block’s handbook on attorney-client privilege and work product protection, a resource used by practitioners nationwide.

Sam has also spent over a decade teaching trial advocacy before joining the College. He has coached at the law school and college level and has partnered with mock trial organizations geared toward furthering high school mock trial education. At the college level, he coached teams to regular top-ten finishes (including to the National Championship Final Round) and students to over 200 individual awards. Sam serves as a Director and Civil Case Committee Chair for the American Mock Trial Association, the governing body for undergraduate mock trial.

Sam received his BA, cum laude and with honors in psychology, from Northwestern University. He received his JD from the University of Chicago Law School, graduating with honors. During law school, Sam served as a staff member of the University of Chicago Law Review, worked as a research assistant to the Honorable Richard A. Posner and Professor William M. Landes, participated in the Edwin F. Mandel Legal Aid Clinic’s Civil Rights and Police Accountability Project, received the Thomas R. Mulroy Prize for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy and Oral Argument, and won the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition.
