Illinois Law Scholars Society
Scholarships not only provide critical support for our current students, they also impact the College’s ability to recruit and retain future students. Law schools are operating in an increasingly competitive environment, and it is essential that the College attract the strongest candidates, ultimately improving the value of the Illinois Law degree for all past and future graduates.
Today’s reality is that the cost of law school continues to increase. At Illinois, the rise in tuition has tracked the decrease in state support for the College, resulting in the need to cover operating costs via tuition and private support. Our endowment provides some of this support, but there is a significant and growing gap between the funding our annual endowment provides and the tuition relief we offer to our students.
As a result, we have created the Illinois Law Scholars Society. Gifts to the Illinois Law Scholars Society are three-year commitments that can be made at several different levels. Named after the donor, these gifts will be earmarked for current-use scholarships, enabling our students to benefit immediately.

Ross Munsterman ’16
Carl L. Vacketta Scholarship in Law recipient
“I am truly grateful that your annual donations have given me the opportunity to continue my education…and work towards my life-long goal of being a lawyer. Without the continued support of our alumni, the College of Law would not be what it is today, and for that I thank you.” Ross continued, “I am proud to be an Illini and blessed to have such a caring network of alumni to look up to. Thank you again for everything that you have done for me and the University of Illinois.”

Alvin and Ann Baum Public Interest Scholarship in Law recipient
“Your financial support has enabled me to ensure that I maintain a connection to the community I want to help. If it were not for your financial support, I would not have been able to stay in the state of Illinois for my legal education. My experiences outside of the classroom have been instrumental in shaping my understanding of how to utilize a legal career to best serve others.”
– Letter to Joel Friedman, Trustee of the Baum Family Foundation
